: Alzheimer-Disease:

The Alzheimer Association projects that by 2025 more than 22 million people worldwide may be diagnosed with AD.

Melissa:

Melissa, officinalis, is effective in a placebo-control study, for four months with 42 patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease. Melissa, officinalis treatment gives significant improvements in cognitive
scores on the Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale (A.D.A.S.), whereas placebo use was associated with a significant deterioration.
Clinical Dementia Rating scores also improve with Melissa, officinalis
treatment and worsen with placebo. Agitation is also less common among
patients receiving Melissa, officinalis.

Salvia:

Preclinical studies of both Melissa, officinalis (lemonbalm) and Salvia, officinalis (sage) show that their mechanism and potency are similar to FDA-approved medications for Alzheimer disease.

Ginkgo:

Ginkgo, biloba has been shown to improve cognitive test scores in Alzheimer-disease. Many of theose who fail to show improvement in the first month improve with continuing supplementation.

L-Carnosine:

L-Carnosine is neuroprotective against free radicals, excitotoxins (e.g. glutamate) and advanced glycation endproducts (A.G.E.).

Body-Mass-Index:

BMI is weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters, or weight in pounds divided by height in inches squared, times 703.

BMI Category
18.5 to 24.9 Normal
25.0 to 29.9 Overweight
30.0 or more Obese

Research at Utah State University finds women in the high overweight to obese range have a higher risk of Alzheimer's disease. At age 70, each 1.0 increase of BMI may raise AD risk by 36 percent. On average, women who develop dementia have a BMI two to three points higher than healthy women. There was no statistical correlation between BMI and Alzheimer's risk for men.

Exercise is essential to maintain a good BMI. Exercise even reduces Alzheimer's symptoms. At the University of Washington Alzheimer's patients who did 30 minutes of light exercise each day had less depression and frailty than those getting only routine care. Rebounding and heat conditioning with FIR are the most efficient forms.

Vascular factors also contribute to Alzheimer's risk.
