Coherence: Lasers emit coherent light (i.e. all photons are in phase) and can have a much more pronounced effect upon biological systems than light that is not coherent. This is because the electrical and magnetic field moments of the individual photons are additive, since they are all in phase with each other. The total EMF oscillation amplitudes experienced are thus tremendously enhanced. This is why laser light can be used to perform many surgical procedures today. Other special properties of coherent light, such as the formation of interference fringes utilized in laser interferometry, allow lower energy lasers to be used in diagnostic procedures as well. Also, low level laser energy is used as a therapy, as with laser acupuncture. In the future, new applications of coherent light therapy will be found, reducing the need for more invasive procedures such as laser therapy. In many cases, the very same frequencies will be used to stimulate healing of a tissue as those used today to destroy the symptomatic part. For example, green lasers are used for photocoagulation in the retina because green is selectively absorbed by the blood vessels. At high levels, as with chemical stimuli, such a stimulus is destructive of any response capacity, while at lower levels it is a stimulant of the bodys healing responses. Reflexes expressed in the iris of the eye, for example, afford an ideal venue for therapy of all body tissues with low level coherent light, especially with a tunable laser. Biophotons which are emitted by biological systems and which serve functions of metabolism, communication and regulation, are also coherent light emissions. Coherence greatly adds to the effectiveness of a photon signal in achieving an adequate signal value in relation to the background thermal noise based on the temperature in the biological system. One of the many functions of the fever response may be to increase to thermal noise barrier to effective communication among the colonizing cells of an infective agent within the hosts body. Infrared: Infrared: Ranging from 1012 Hz to 1014 Hz, it is familiar in the form of heat radiation, as well as remote controls and sensors. It is interesting to note that "temperature" receptors in the body are sensitive not only to infrared radiation, but also to visible light. This is why sunlight on the skin feels so good and so 'warm' even when the temperature of the skin is still cold. This is an adaptive mechanism to reinforce the absorption of adequate amounts of sunlight in order to energize the biochemical constituents of the body. Sub-Millimeter-Waves: Microwave is used in cooking, communications, and radar. It is divided into 3 components:
Microwave radiation now comes at from numerous sources:
The effects of microwave exposure
can include:
All frequency bands are in use today for communication signals, so these frequencies are all passing through every cell in your body, every second of every day:
