: Common-Colds

Perhaps the most frequent occurring illness in humans. The National Center for Health Statistics estimated in 1981, that the U.S. population experienced more than 93 million colds. The common cold represented just on 20% of all acute conditions, resulting in 261 million days of restricted activity.

The Cleveland Family study, spanning a period of 10 years, including over 25,000 illnesses, highlighted; that common respiratory diseases accounted for 60% of all illnesses. In the study, the overall instance of common respiratory diseases was 5.6 per person per year. The highest incident occurred in the 1-year age group at 8.3 cases per year. The incidence in children remained high through age 5 at 7.4 cases per year. The average incidence was slightly greater in boys than girls, and higher in mothers than fathers. The incidence of common respiratory disease was also greater in school children. There was a strong link to the incidence of colds in families and the number of children at school. The incidence increased progressively according to family size. The results concluded to that these illnesses were introduced into the home usually by school children under 6 years of age.

Research at the University of South Carolina at Columbia finds that moderate physical activity reduces colds by 25% for most of the year and 32% in autumn.

: Transmission

Volunteer studies highlight a heretofore unrecognized, major simple mechanism of transmission. This mechanism is self-inoculation of the eyes or nasal passageway with virus-contaminated fingers. Part of the human condition is a tendency to touch the eyes and nose. Virus was recovered in 94.3% of trials from fingers. The virus could easily be transferred to the fingers of other volunteers during skin trials in approximately 70% of the cases. A comparison of hand transmission followed by autoinoculation to aerosol transmission was striking: 11 of 15 hand-to hand resulted in infection, whereas none of the aerosol transmission induced infections.

The use of zinc has been found in some tests to have some benefit, however, it appears that zinc is more efficient when it enters the nasal passageway and the zinc lozenges only assist in getting up the back of the oral pharynx to the nasopharynx. A new system of a simple facial dip for 1 or 2 seconds of a dilute solution of hydrogen peroxide containing zinc, and an iodine solution containing zinc were far more efficient. The solution was simply added to a basin of warm water and the face immersed for 1 or 2 seconds. In very young children the solution was added to the bath. In addition, the solutions of hydrogen peroxide and zinc were highly effective in killing the viruses, diluting the mucus and stimulating the cilia escalator making the person far more resistant to infection. The relief from colds was almost instant. Further, the zinc activated the hydrogen peroxide and iodine so that free oxygen is better able to attach itself to microbes. One of the iodine solutions used produced a high percentage of HOI, an oxidized form of iodine, that was more than 40 times as virucidal as normal iodine. The solutions were used in such dilution that were no side effects whatsoever, even after repeated use over a long period of time (16 years, thousands of volunteers).

In addition to these facial dips new techniques of cleaning the fingernails were developed. Hidden cameras show that the average person touches the nasal mucosa or conjunctiva approximately 8 times in 24 hours. This autoinoculation is far more frequent in children and they totally neglect cleaning the fingernail area. The soap was designed in a tub into which the fingernails were prodded several times to ensure the soap entered under and around the fingernail area, which has the highest concentration of microbes per unit area on the entire body. The results of these new techniques of hygiene in approximately 10,000 families over a period of 16 years in Australia and throughout the USA has been a reduction in ear, nose and throat problems to a level never before thought possible. The use of these techniques of hygiene for the first time, has enabled a human to be in total control of respiratory problems, including allergies.

Remedies:

  • Garlic (Allium sativa) enchances the immune function and is a natural antibiotic
  • Vitamin A & Beta Carotene heal mucus membranes and boost the immune system
  • Vitamin B Complex: Colds increase demand for the B vitamins
  • Vitamin C helps prevents common colds
  • Zinc may prevent recurrence
