Dear Representative Lee:

You know the old saying about how hard it is to keep your head when all those around you are losing theirs. You have obviously achieved the goal of keeping your head by listening to both your head and your heart. I find it appalling that only one voice in Congress spoke out against the mad rush to do the wrong thing.

I grew up with Congressman Henry B. Gonzalez as my Representative. In the fifties, he was one of a handful of votes against the appropriations for the House Un-American Activities Committee. He later had the courage to question the official version of John Kennedy's assassination. I have tried to live my political life with the same type of commitment to taking right action, wherever anyone else is headed.

As an attorney, I spent five years working on a racketeering case against the private, covert network involved in the Iran-operation. During that case, we took a long look at the covert side of U.S. government operations. The incredible history of assassinations, overthrowing elected governments, subversion of indigenous movements, and all the rest of the ugliness gave me a real skepticism about any events designed to impact the U.S. electorate.

When I saw the people Bush was putting into place, such as Richard Armitage as Deputy Secretary of State, I knew that this administration would be guided by the same anti-democratic tendencies that produced Iran-contra. When I saw Bush appoint his campaign manager as head of FEMA, I remembered our investigation into Oliver North's plan to suspend the U.S. Constitution, if Bush invaded either Nicaragua or El Salvador and the concentration camps at abandoned military bases planned for those who would protest such an action. Those plans hatched in a secret room at FEMA. Then there are the many Executive Orders already on the books that give FEMA control over all major sectors of the U.S. in times of national emergency.

As to the recent events and the apparent intentions of the Bush Administration, I believe that the events fit too snugly into the agenda of the National Security State. Below are some random thoughts and observations, most of which are probably familiar to you.

1. If we attack a Muslim country to "punish terrorists," we will empower the most radical groups in the Islamic world. They will be in a position to pressure more moderate Islamic governments into supporting resistance to the attacks of the "infidel." The bottom line is that whatever destruction we visit will return to us ten fold through the recruitment and creation of more fanatics willing to perform similar acts. [Wizard: This is essential to the plan to create martial law in the 'homeland' to borrow the same Nazi word being used by our government, in order to trigger the use of FEMA and all the Presidential Orders.] A friend sent me the following relevant quote from Thomas Jefferson: "War is an instrument entirely inefficient toward redressing wrong; and multiplies, instead of indemnifying losses." While the Bush Administration and your colleagues in Congress call for a willingness to pay the price of retaliation, they are hardly being frank about that price being more events such as those we have just witnessed. Or from Jimmy Carter: "We have only to go to Lebanon, to Syria, to Jordan, to witness firsthand the intense hatred among many people for the United States, because we bombed and shelled and unmercifully killed totally innocent villagers, women and children and farmers and housewives, in those villages around Beirut...as a result, we have become a kind of Satan in the minds of those who are deeply resentful. That is what precipitated the taking of hostages and that is what has precipitated some terrorist attacks." Source for this quote: New York Times - 26th March 1989

2. While retaliation serves the fundamentalist Islamic groups, retaliation also serves the National Security State and the fundamentalist Christian groups. For the National Security State, the ideal political scenario is permanent warfare. This scenario leads to unquestioning approvals of military/intelligence budgets, repression of political opinion that does not support war - as witnessed by your lone voice - , suppression of civil liberties in the name of security, cowardice on the part of the media, and a general subversion of the entire democratic experiment. For the fundamentalist Christians, the ideal political scenario is a united Islamic world confronting the west in a great war in which millions die because then Christ will return and take all the believers to heaven. What the National Security State team begins, the Armageddonists and their Islamic "allies" may complete. [Just as in the time of Christ: most who profess to follow God's ways simply use their appearance as a facade to justify their own sins such as pride. The jewish zealots, such as , who was the most highly educated of all the apostles, wanted Christ to overthrow the evil empire of the Romans. He came rather, in the face of that earlier One-World-Order to say that his kingdom is not of this world, and if you want to follow him, give to Rome what is Caesar's, and give to God what is God's. We are all God's. All creation is God's. The Truth is all God's. Only the fiction of the Federal Reserve Debt Notes and the fiction of our Government, with its fictitious separation of Church and State, belongs to our Caesar. If Christ were to appear to you, would you recognize him? If he were hungry, would you feed him. The people in Afghanistan are hungry. We are called to see Christ in each of them, as did Mother Theresa of Calcutta.]

3. To make themselves look reasonable, the Bush Administration is making unreasonable demands. They call upon Pakistan's government to take all kinds of actions against the Taliban and force the Taliban to turn over bin Laden. Such actions by the Pakistani government could well lead to the rise to power of fundamentalists in Pakistan and raise the terrorist element to even greater heights of support. Such results serve the purposes in point 2 above. They also call upon the Taliban to arrest bin Laden and destroy his network. The Taliban probably lack the military capability to even conduct such an action successfully. The likelihood of their pursuing such an action against a former supporter of their regime when they themselves are still engaged in an internal struggle for control of Afghanistan is somewhere between zero and none.

3. The FBI recently moved into numerous internet providers and demanded the installation of the FBI's Canivore [Nice choice of a name to reveal their intent.] system that scans all emails passing through the server. Essentially, the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution got tossed out to permit warrantless interception of communications with no showing of probable cause. [President Bush has already put the world on notice that he knows that all law at present in written in the fiction: so he is not bound by the Constitution or any Treaties agreed to in the past by the U.S. He will attack any country harboring terrorists without showing cause or evidence.] The FBI action is even more curious because the intelligence community is reporting that bin Laden and other networks learned long ago to send encrypted messages and the codes are extraordinarily difficult to break consistently. The skeptic in me questions whether the real intent of the FBI was to put in place their connection so that they can manipulate the Internet, if necessary for "national security," e.g. if the decision is made to impose martial law after a series of (totally predictable) further attacks. [This is only a test. If this were the real Armageddon: we would be in much deeper. Don't forget that the internet was conceived and deployed by our military.]

4. The knee jerk reaction of Congress probably means that it will be years before there is a comprehensive investigation into what the Bush Administration knew and when they knew it. There is already some evidence of early warnings that did not produce preventive action. We know that in the first bombing of the World Trade Center, the FBI was deeply involved with the bombers and did nothing to stop the event. We know that the people in the U.S. will generally not support wars unless there is a personal involvement. Hence President Johnson's false claim of an attack in the Gulf of Tonkin to generate U.S. support for the Vietnam War and the evidence that President Roosevelt did not act on knowledge that the Japanese would likely attack Pearl Harbor. The attack on New York achieved a personal impact on the U.S. population that is being manipulated to drive the nation into a permanent warfare state and/or the great war so long sought by people who do not really enjoy being human.

5. Just why did President Bush go to Texas for thirty days so close to the initiation of these events?

6. Just why did Governor Jeb Bush issue an Executive Order on September 7 directing the Florida National Guard to prepare to support local law enforcement based, in part, "on the potential massive damage to life and property that may result from an act of terrorism at a Florida port, the necessity to protect life and property from such acts of terrorism ...."? (Copy of EO attached). The news reports that those who seized the planes on September 11 had been busy trying to get crop dusters in Florida until shortly before they acted elsewhere. Similarly, Governor Bush on the day of the disaster issued another Executive Order calling up the National Guard and essentially creating the conditions for martial law in Florida. (Copy in same attachment). President Bush did not call upon governors to call up the Guard until September 27. Are we watching a recycled Oliver North plan being put into place?

I doubt these types of questions will be asked any time soon in the congressional rush to join the parade.
