Down-Syndrome
Much of the information in this
report comes from the IBIS database of alternative medicine research
which I helped to write while teaching at the National College of
Naturopathic Medicine in Oregon. The program is available to licensed
or certified health practitioners. For individualized recommendations,
ask for a Biofield Analysis.
Down-Syndrome:
Down-Syndrome is an
inherited autosomal condition characterized by an extra chromosome
21. It is also known as "Trisomy 21", "Trisomy G"
and "Mongolism". Those with this extra DNA antenna seem
especially tuned in to Divine Love. I believe they act as vessels
and conduits of Grace, helping to bring the Divine closer to us here
as they attune more than we can to Heaven.
Etiology:
The extra chromosome is present
in 95% of the children affected. The typical occurrence is a baby
born to an older mother, although random trisomic mongolism also occurs
in infants of young mothers. Relatively common, the incidence is 1:700
live births: the ratio is adjusted for the mother's age at birth.
In early childbirth years, the incidence is 1:2000; for mothers over
40, the ratio changes to around 1:22. The average age of mother bearing
a child with Down's Syndrome is 37. The condition accounts for 1%
of mental retardation (slowness). What they lack in mental acuity
in connecting with the outer world of space/time, they seem to more
than make up in the inner world of the heart.
Signs and symptoms:
-
Infants: usually
calm, cry minimally, and have muscular hypotonicity.
-
Both physical
and mental developments are slowed: the mean IQ is approximately
50. IQ is merely a predictor of performance in an academic environment.
Physical appearance:
-
Head: Small
and round, sloping forehead.
-
Nose: Bridge
is poorly developed or absent.
-
Ears: Hung
low and are round; small pinna.
-
Eyes: Appear
to slant upward and outward due to medial epicanthic folds; Brushfield's
spots: whitish gray spots around the iris.
-
Mouth: Hangs
open with a large, fissured, protruding tongue.
-
Hands: Exhibit
one palmar crease ("simian crease"); are small and broad;
fingers curve inward from hypoplastic or absent middle phalanges
(clinodactyly); and have typical dermatoglyphics.
-
Feet: Large
space between 1st and 2nd toes, with typical dermatoglyphics.
-
Brain: Subnormal
weight; simple convolutional folds.
Lab findings:
Prognosis:
The child born with Trisomy 21
has a decreased life span. They start life closer to Heaven. The death
rate is especially high in the first years of the child's life, from
heart disease, respiratory infections, and acute leukemia. Although
today, even severe cardiac birth defects may be corrected early in
the child's life, death still usually occurs in the 4th or 5th decade
because of an accelerated rate of aging and/or the development of
a premature form of Alzheimer's cerebral degeneration.
However, most people with Down-Syndrome are happy, able to work in
protected environments, and delight in simple pleasures which most
people take for granted.

Other relationships:
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of
245 neurological and 194 psychiatric patients were tested for viral
antibodies and interferon. Complement-dependent neutralizing antibodies
to herpes (HSV1) were found in the CSF of patients with senile dementia
(52%), encephalitis (51%), alcoholism (44%), lesions of peripheral
nerves (37%), multiple sclerosis (42%), meningitis (35%), schizophrenia
(32%), mental retardation (11%). CSF interferon was found in psychiatric
patients with an equal or even higher incidence (34-52%) than in the
neurological patients (30-39%). The evaluation of the ratio of serum
and CSF titers of viral antibodies and interferon showed local synthesis
of both in the CNS. In neurological patients, CSF antibodies to 2
or 3 viruses simultaneously were observed in 16-41%, whereas only
0-5% in psychiatric patients. (Locke, 1983, p. 172)
Chinese psychophysiology:
-
Kidney Δ
Shen stores Jing (Essence) and governs birth, growth, reproduction,
development, and aging; houses the Zhi (Will); expresses ambition
and focus; produces the Marrow which generates the spinal cord
and "fills up" the brain; nourishes the brain to sustain
concentration, clear thinking, and memory; provides the "Fire
of Life" through its Yang functions; relates particularly
to congenital conditions because it carries the constitutional
endowment from the parents; and displays the stresses of aging
and chronic degenerative processes.
-
Healthy expressions
are gentleness, groundedness, and endurance.
-
Kidney Xu
(Deficiency) signs include indecisiveness; confused speech; dreams
of trees submerged under water; cold feet and legs; abundant sweating
(Seem, p. 28); hearing loss; fearfulness; apathy; chronic fatigue;
discouragement; scatteredness; lack of will; negativity; impatience;
difficult inhalation; low sex drive; lumbago; sciatica; and musculoskeletal
irritation and inflammation, especially when worse from touch.
-
Intense or
prolonged fear depletes the Kidney. Often chronic anxiety may
induce Xu (Deficiency) and then Fire within the Kidney. (Maciocia,
p. 250) Overwork, parenting, simple aging, and a sedentary or
excessively indulgent lifestyle all contribute significantly to
Kidney Xu (Deficiency). The state of health of the parents' Kidneys,
particularly deficiency, establishes the parameters of their child's
health through the energetic transmission of the Jing.
