:iam33: Ghana: Village-Project

The Village Project is a farming, fishing, and educational project helping the indigenous village of Nogokpo, Agozie Kope in the Voltre Region of Ghana, West Africa. Bright Philips D.D. (a native of Nogokpo, and student of Dr. G.M. Swartwout, iam33-founder) and Dawn Lianna MA. founded the Village Project in 1999. The Village Project is a non-profit in Ghana, soon to be incorporated in the United States. The Project is a family run cooperative, intending to love and preserve one of the last remaining indigenous tribes, their tradition, music, spirituality, culture and knowledge.

Nogokpo-Village

Nogokpo villagers have lived on their land for the past 200 years in simple, grass huts. They fish by hand and net from the river and raise chickens, goats, ducks, sheep, guinea fowl, pigeons and a few cattle. The villagers produce corn, tomatoes, cassava, okra, sugar cane, palm trees, beans, sweet potato and smoked fish for market. They make palm nut oil from palm trees. The villagers hunt antelope and practice traditional drumming and spirituality.

Nogokpo-Philosophy

• Giving-Back for the Land
• Appreciation for the Earth as a Provider for our Needs
• Caring for each Other
• Live in Peace
• Honor for our Traditions and Ancestors
• Laugh
• Dance
• Drum
• Sing
• Talk-Story
• Respect

Today the Nogokpo Villagers farm their land with hoes. Wouldn’t it be great to send them some shovels and a rototiller? A $10.00 donation buys 2 chickens and $45.00 buys a goat.

:Education for a Child

Put a special smile on someone’s face. In Ghana now, it costs about $600 a year to send a child to school. Many families do not earn $600 a year. For a $600 we will connect you directly to a child in Ghana who wishes to go to school. The money will be paid directly for the child’s education. You will receive the child’s picture and story and twice a year a hand written letter from the child, letting you how your sponsored child is progressing.
