Pearl-Harbor:

Actual photo of the attack known in advance and permitted by the government in order to generate America's will to war. The British double agent code-named Tricycle had the complete plans for the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, but was ignored by the FBI claiming his story was "too fantastic". Documents declassified in 1994 show that FDR not only knew the Japanese were going to attack, but goaded them into it to get the US into WWII. The FBI kept warnings from surfacing that would have spoiled the government's surprise for its people.
