J. Baxter Swartwout, O.D., F.C.O.V.D., F.A.A.O.

Dr. J. Baxter Swartwout is a pioneer in the fields of Vision Development and Behavioral Optometry. When A.M. Skeffington retired as the Director of Education for the Optometric Extension Program Foundation, Dr. Swartwout was selected to take his place.

A prolific author and teacher, Dr. Swartwout is author of Optometric Vision Therapy (ISBN: 0943599032; Revised edition, September 1988), an abbreviated version of the Manual of Procedures and Forms. This book discusses home vision therapy and details a 10 week home therapy program complete with list of equipment needed and the various activities.

Over 50 different activities are detailed in the manual and the forms for each activity are easily duplicated for use in a vision care office. Some of the activities included in this book are Loose Lens Rock; Cross Pattern Walk; Pencil, Tack and String; b-d-p-q Sorting; Letter Tracking, and much more. The book is softbound and contains 171 pages.

Dr. Swartwout recently retired from practice in Latham, New York with patients coming mostly from the Northeast, including New York as far north as the Canadian border, Vermont, Massachuesettes and Connecticut. Dr. Swartwout has lectured extensively in America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

His Optometric Vision Therapy Manual: Procedures and Forms (ISBN: 0943599202; 1991 edition, December 1991) is a comprehensive and practical 419 page compilation of instructions and forms used by thousands of eye doctors around the world as a basis for the practice of visual training. The manual is published by the Optometric Extension Program Foundation.
